The Mexican government decided to host another main conference to complement the work of COP16. The topic that they chose? Communicating climate science. The forum was held at the Grand Velas Resort Riviera Maya, a luxury hotel with shiny marble floors, high ceilings, and indoor waterfalls. The fully catered lunch included at least five choices of dessert and was served beneath a tent erected just for the occasion. It made me wish that those of us trying to explain climate science were always treated so well.

99 Years Ago: Life in the Year 2000 - 5th September 2010
This fascinating account of the future was written by Estella Bennett in 1911 and imagines life in the year 2000. It was recently found by Hub Culture member Liza Morris in DC, and we thought it was well worth sharing. In it she predicts flying cars, world peace, and the internet. At least she got one right!

Jeff Koons' Popeye Series opens at the Serpentine Gallery in London the day after Christie's Postwar & Contemporary Sale sees one of the three 'Moustache' pieces in the series sell for £1,105.250 or $1,842,452. It was a fantastic opening in Hyde Park with splendid summer weather and a star studded crowd to stop the press. From July 2nd through September 13th, the Serpentine Gallery presents an exhibition of the work of the celebrated American artist Jeff Koons, his first major exhibition in a public gallery in England.
